From the WTF Watch Desk: CAL FIRE reported the 1,365-acre Cooley Fire at 90 percent containment after crews used uncrewed aircraft to locate hotspots in steep areas that were difficult to reach from the ground, with additional resources ordered for continued mop-up.
Why this deserves the fire service’s attention
Containment does not eliminate concealed heat; pairing aerial thermal intelligence with ground crews helps direct limited resources, reduce unnecessary exposure and verify difficult terrain before wind tests the line again.
