From the WTF Watch Desk: London Fire Brigade sent eight engines and around 60 firefighters to a Barnsbury Street fire in Islington. Part of the basement and ground floor of a three-storey terraced house was damaged; crews controlled the fire in about two and a half hours, with no reported injuries.

Why this deserves the fire service’s attention

Basement fires in attached buildings create difficult access, ventilation and extension problems. Command must balance interior progress with continuous checks of concealed spaces and neighboring properties.
